Technology at our school opens many doors: it fosters independent research, supports the identification of each student’s learning needs, enables collaboration beyond physical presence, allows access to unique virtual experiences, and, in general, enhances how we process and communicate information and knowledge in various formats.
Access to technology and the privilege of using personal devices at school comes with responsibility and discernment. The following guidelines are intended to ensure the proper use of technology—especially personal devices—and to help students develop a strong understanding of digital citizenship. Failure to follow these rules may result in the loss of this privilege.
- Students are allowed to use electronic devices solely for educational purposes, as authorized by the teacher or another school authority.
- The teacher determines when, what, and how electronic devices may be used. Students must use them only for the tasks and content specifically indicated by the teacher. Devices must be turned off and stored away when instructed.
- Students may bring various devices: laptops, notebooks, tablets, and e-readers. Mobile phones are not allowed, except when expressly indicated by the teacher. Gaming devices are not permitted on school premises.
- Each student is responsible for bringing their device fully charged, ready for use, in a protective a case, and should have headphones when required by the teacher.
- Each student is responsible for the security of their device: including only using their own, not sharing passwords with others, and taking precautions to prevent loss or damage (insurance is recommended). Each student, as well as their parents and/or guardians, are responsible for virus protection and data backups, whether locally or in the cloud.
- Parents and/or guardians are responsible for supervising the proper use of the device, which may include the use of parental controls or other strategies.
- When necessary, the school will provide students with a school-owned device for exclusive us on academic tasks. These devices will either be password-free or use a password set by the school. Students are not allowed to create or change the password. As the devices are school property, the school reserves the right to inspect them and review usage history. Therefore, students should not store any personal content on these devices, whether theirs or others.
- The school provides filtered Wi-Fi access for educational use. Attempts to bypass this filtering, such as through VPNs or personal mobile data, are considered serious violations. The school cannot guarantee full compatibility with all software or uninterrupted connectivity and is not responsible for technical issues with students’ personal devices, though support may be provided when notified in advance.
- If a student damages another student’s device, it will be reviewed by the school’s IT department. This department will determine what needs to be done: whether the device can be repaired or not, and how. Parents and/or guardians are obliged to follow the IT department’s recommendation to repair the damage or, if necessary, replace the damaged device.
- In case of emergency or technical issues, the school will offer alternative options such as using the computer lab, device sharing, or other resources. Printing services are not included in these alternatives.
- In class, students must connect to the school’s Wi-Fi network only, not 3G or 4G networks. Devices must be configured accordingly.
- When devices are used in class, they must always remain on the desks, visible, in silent mode or used with headphones if permitted. Headphones must not be used when not authorized.
- During assessments, students may only access approved materials and may be asked to disconnect from the internet (e.g., via airplane mode).
- Students may not take photos or videos of school activities without permission, nor access or share private information.
- If there is reasonable suspicion of improper device use or related risk, a teacher or school authority may ask a student to unlock the device for inspection. This access will be limited to verifying compliance with the rules. If appropriate, findings will be reported to the school´s management. Failure to comply with this regulation may lead to disciplinary actions or negatively affect the student´s evaluation in the area of Personal Development.
We trust each student will use this valuable resource with respect, integrity and responsibility.
